Costa Blanca, in Alicante province, has a lot of hidden beaches and coves that are ideal for enjoying summer. In this article, I show you some little hidden beaches in Alicante province, most of them away from towns and perfect for snorkelling.

Cala Portitxol (Xàbia)

Cala del Portitxol o Cala Barraca is considered one of the best hidden beaches in Alicante. Its beautiful white houses with blue doors will delight those who wants the perfect photo for Instagram.

Nevertheless, this isn’t the only highlight of this beach. We are talking about a stone cove where water is usually calm and that is also ideal for snorkelling, as we can see a diverse marine wildlife.

Here you can find the restaurant La Barraca, that has a terrace overlooking the sea. On the other hand, the road reaches the beach itself, but there are just a few parking places, and in summer the capacity is controlled, closing the road when there are no more spaces. For that reason, try to go as early as possible.

Cala del Moraig (El Poble Nou de Betnitatxell)

Reaching Cala del Moraig requires more effort. From the nearest parking spot to the beach there are 750 meters uphill, with a slope of 72 meters. Nevertheless, the reward is a hidden beach with calm waters and beautiful views that has a small cave called Cova dels Arcs.

It has lifeguard service, but there is no beach bar nor restaurant. From 2023, parking is regulated, and you have to pay €12, being recommended to book it.

Cova Tallada (Xàbia)

Cova Tallada is one of the most special places in Comunitat Valenciana to have a bath. It is a cave leading directly to the sea. As its name indicates, it was carved by the human being some centuries ago, as it was used as a quarrying.

It’s a very different place from any other beach or cove, because you can have a bath in the small swimming pools formed inside the cave or by its entrance, having the sensation of being in the middle of the sea.

One option to reach Cova Tallada is doing a hike of 2 km long. This starts in the outskirts of Denia, and it’s an irregular track, in some part there are even ropes. On the other hand, you can go by kayak, for example, with a guided tour from Denia.

Be aware that in this place are no services, not even lifeguard. Also, mobile phones usually have no coverage. And because of its increasing popularity, nowadays, capacity is controlled, so in high season you need to make a free booking in order to visit it.

Cala Granadella (Xàbia)

Cala Granadella is another piece of paradise in Costa Blanca. This small pebbly beach has clear and normally calm waters. Near the cove, going up a ramp, there is a field where you can park.

Nevertheless, in summer this beach is full very soon, and the traffic is even closed to prevent more cars from entering the site. There is another parking area around 1 km away. In this beach there is safeguard. Furthermore, there are some restaurants nearby.

Cala del Racó del Corb (Altea)

This is one of the less accessible coves in the list, but it is perfect for relaxing and snorkelling. Cala del Racó del Corb is in the outskirts of Calpe, near the residential area Pueblo Mascarat. You have to park the car in the streets of the urbanization and walk down a steep path that starts in the cul-de-sac Pagell Mascarat. It is important an appropriate footwear, do not carry too much weight and to be agile.

It is a pebble beach, small and narrow, but that keeps a wild air. There are no lifeguards nor beach bars.

Cala Advocat (Benissa)

What I like the most about Cala Advocat are the beautiful views to the Peñón de Ifach. But, also, it is recommended because it is very easy to access. Near the beach there is a big parking, and there is a second one a little bit further. Furthermore, there is a beach bar nearby. It is a little more urban cove, but definitely has its own charm.

Whatever beach you choose, please remember that you are in a very valuable natural area, so don’t leave any kind of waste, respect flora and fauna and take the necessary precautions with the sea. Also, remember to take water, sunscreen and, especially in the most inaccessible coves, carry as little weight as possible.

By the way, even though I would add Cala Ambolo to this list, in June 2023 this beach is closed because of the high risk of landslides.

I hope you liked this article about some hidden beaches in Alicante!
