Free places to visit in Valencia

Valencia is a city with a lot of attractions, some of them totally free, so you can’t miss them out! Here I talk about free places to visit in Valencia, both every day of the week and only on Sundays.

1. Free museums and monuments in Valencia every day

These are the free places to visit in Valencia every day of the week:

1.1 Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània (CCCC)

This former convent is located in Museu street 2, next to carmen square, since 1281. Nowadays, it’s a museum with several temporary exhibitions about contemporary art. The entry is free, and its schedule is from Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 until 21:00.

It worths a visit just to see the two cloisters of the building, one Gothic and the other Renaissance, very well conserved and full of plants. It’s a very calm place, it doesn’t seem is in the centre of the city. For me, it’s a must-see among the free places to visit in Valencia.

1.2 Valencia City hall

Until recently, it wasn’t allowed visiting the City hall of Valencia. Currently, you can enter for free from Monday to Tuesday, from 09:00 to 14:00. Inside the building you can see the Glass Hall and the balcony, which is famous during Fallas, since from it falleras give the order for the mascletà to begin.

1.3 Gulliver Park

This park is the most special from the city and one of the most originals I’ve ever seen. It’s formed by long and wide slides for children (and adults) to slide down. If we could see it from above… It is the giant Gulliver!

You’ll find Gulliver Park in the Turia Garden. It’s opened every day from 10:00 to 21:00.

1.4 Fine Arts Museum

Even tough it’s not so famous, this is one of the most important fine arts museums in Spain. In it, we can find artworks from Velázquez, Sorolla, Goya, Ribera…

The entry is free and the schedule is from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00.

1.5 Real Basílica de Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados

Even tough to visit the entire Cathedral you have to pay, next to it, in plaza de la Virgen, we find the Basílica de la Virgen de los Desamparados. In it, it stands out the amazing fresco painting of its dome. You can enter for free every day from 07:00 to 14:00 and from 16:30 to 21:00.

1.6 L’ETNO

This free museum in Valencia is less known, but in 2023 received the prize to Best Museum in Europe. It is specialized in the popular and traditional culture in Valencia. To understand better the exhibitions, you can ask for an audio guide in the front desk. Its schedule is from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00.

1.7 Other free places to visit in Valencia

Apart from the ones already mentioned, there are other places in the city with free entry. Nevertheless, in December 2023 were close, but, when you visit Valencia, you can check if they are already opened to the public:

  • Baños del Almirante (Arab baths): Baños del Almirante street, 35
  • Palacio de Comunicaciones: Ayuntamiento square, 24

Also, here you have some interesting activities to do in Valencia:

2. Free places to visit in Valencia on Sunday

A big majority of paid museums and monuments are free on Sundays and festivities. So, if you are one of these days in Valencia, you can the advantage of it. These are the places you can visit for free on Sundays:

2.1 Marqués de Dos Aguas Palace

This attraction is one of the most important in Valencia because of its beauty, both out and inside. Marqués de Dos Aguas Palace was built in the 18th century and its style is rococo. Apart from enter the stately and luxurious rooms, we’ll also find original carriages from the 18th century, as well as the National Museum of Ceramics.

It is free of charge on Saturday afternoons and Sundays.

2.2 Serranos Towers

Serranos Towers are the great entrance to the old city of Valencia since 14th century. Apart from protecting Valencia, it was also a prison in the 16th century. Even though you have to pay €2 to climb up, it is free on Sunday and festivities.

2.3 Lonja de la Seda

This is one of my favourite places in the city, I find it really beautiful and impressive. Even though the main door is in Mercat square, in front of Mercat Central (also free), you have to enter from the back of the building, in Lotja street.

This building is a World Heritage Site, as it is one of the most important civil Gothic buildings in Europe.

2.4 Almoina Archaeological Center

One of the most interesting museums in Valencia is the Almoina. In it, we can travel back to the origins of the city, as we will see remains of the Roman Valencia, known as Valentia. There are also remains from other times, like the Arab. I recommend its visit even though it’s not Sunday, as its entry ticket is just €2.

2.5 Cripta Arqueológica de la Cárcel de San Vicente Mártir

This place is little known even for people who live in the city. It’s very close to the Almoina, and here you can find a Visigothic funerary chapel from the 4th century.

2.6 IVAM

If you like modern art, then you can visit IVAM, located in Guillem de Castro street, 18. Normally, the entry ticket is €5, but all day Sundays and Wednesdays from 16:00 to 19:00 is free. Here you can see what are its current exhibitions.

2.7 Other free museums in Valencia on Sundays

If you have more time, and you are looking forward to visiting more places in Valencia on Sunday, you can go to the History of Valencia Museum (it is a little far from the centre, specifically in Valencia street, 42, Mislata). On Sundays, it’s opened from 10:00 to 14:00, and from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 19:00 (with a ticket entry of €2).

Also, in Viveros Gardens, you can enter to the Natural Sciences Municipal Museum, opened from 10:00 to 19:00.
